Summertime is a double whammy for your skin; extra sun and heat and extra time spent in air conditioning both conspire to dry you out, making it even more important to drink enough plain pure water. It can be from the tap or a bottle; It doesn’t matter as long as the quality of your city water supply is good.

Drinking enough water every day helps maintain the critical moisture balance of the body and skin and assists in detoxification. Skin can appear lacklustre, dull, sallow, or “tired” without adequate water intake. Water plumps up the skin, causing wrinkles and pores to, more or less, get filled in.
Dehydrated skin can even be more prone to congestion bumps, blackheads and acne. Dehydration can trigger changes in the type of oil and sebum that your skin makes, associated with acne formation. When skin is hydrated, plump, and elastic, it’s less likely to crack and let in external particles that cause irritations and blemishes. Drinking water can also fend off breakouts by decreasing the concentration of oil on your skin.
Still, if your skin looks better, what does it matter if research hasn’t yet confirmed the benefit?
Scientists suggest that you drink half your weight in ounces every day. If you weigh 140 pounds, you should drink 70 ounces of water a day – almost 10 glasses of water – just over two litres. And for every caffeinated beverage, you drink you need to drink triple that volume of water to flush it out of your system. If you drink a 12 oz caffeinated soda, you also need to drink 36 ounces of water.
Don’t drink all that water all at once. Your body can only absorb about a quart of water an hour. Anything more than that, and you will pee it out.
Of course, all the water in the world won’t do the trick on its own. That’s because extra water can’t do anything to combat the oil loss we get from sun exposure and skin cleansers. You still should moisturize the outer layer of skin with an excellent daily moisturizer.
