Most sun protection products have unpleasant chemical scents and goopy, pore-clogging formulas. We searched for the best sunscreen for summer, lightweight sunscreen and found some great ones you should try ASAP.
The coming of summer means longer days, shorter nights, more time spent outside, and stronger sunlight. All adds to harsh exposure for your skin, which speeds the ageing process, causes dark spots, and increases your risk of developing skin cancer. One blistering sunburn doubles your risk of melanoma.
Sun exposure causes most skin changes that we think of as a normal part of ageing. Over time, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) light damages the fibres in the skin called elastin. When these fibres break down, the skin begins to sag, stretch, and lose its ability to go back into place after stretching. The skin also bruises and tears more easily — taking longer to heal.
So while sun damage to the skin may not be apparent when you’re young, it will show later in life.
We hear that we should wear daily sunscreen to protect our skin. But how many of us wear sunscreen daily? Most people only think to apply sunscreen when going to the pool or the lake. But we get most of our lifetime skin exposure while doing our daily routine – walking from the car to the store, driving with the windows down, and walking the dog.
Making sure your skin is protected daily is easy. It is integrated seamlessly into your daily skin regimen by replacing your regular moisturizer with a moisturizer that has a high percentage of physical SPF. Some great products moisturize well and give excellent sun protection while remaining non-greasy. And won’t cause breakouts, and there are formulas for sensitive skin.
Facial Moisturizer SPF 35
Rx systems pf Facial Moisturizer SPF 35 with transparent zinc oxide provides complete broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. This dermatologist-developed and tested moisturizer offers unmatched protection from the sun’s harmful rays. And an antioxidant formulation that provides excellent anti-ageing benefits. The lightweight texture won’t clog pores, and it’s hypoallergenic, very hydrating and oil-free.
Solar defence SPF 30
Hydropeptide Solar defence SPF 30 (All Skin Types) self-adjusts to the colour of your skin tone, offering flawless coverage. This time anti-ageing elements hydrate, protect and help clarify the skin. Because this product adjusts to your skin colour, you can use it as a tinted moisturizer on days when you do not need heavy foundation coverage.
For extra or alternative skin protection, you can use sun-blocking makeup. There are many available today, and you can take your pick. The one I prefer is IT Cosmetics new reformulated Celebrations foundation. They have a full coverage powder foundation with physical-only SPF 50. Physical SPF means there are no unnecessary chemicals to irritate your skin. The broadband coverage protects against UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning). It comes in five colours from fair to rich and is para-bin and talc-free. If you are in the sun, it is easy to reapply. It covers hyper-pigmentation such as uneven skin tone, age spots, sun spots, acne scars, pregnancy masks and melasma. If you have any of these conditions, you must wear SPF every day so that these conditions do not darken or become worse.
Suppose you have got too much sun despite all your best efforts. Super-soothing botanicals and cooling gels can help prevent peeling. Reduce redness and inflammation, preferably applied at first sight of a pink glow. A peel or series of peels will help fade the completed visible damage. We usually encourage clients to avoid peels in the summer. Because you need to have a week of recovery when you have covered skin to the sun for maximum benefit from the service. But we discuss this on an individual basis.
Remember to get a yearly skin exam by a doctor and perform a self-examination once a month to detect early warning signs of carcinomas and malignant melanoma.
